Meet The Piano Guys, a classical cross-over group from the United States!
Comprised of four members (Paul Anderson - Videographer, Jon Schmidt - Pianist, Steven Sharp Nelson - Cellist, and Al van der Beek - Music producer), the group has been one of the biggest crossover groups for a decade. If you have not heard of The Piano Guys, here are four things you need to know about this incredible group!
1. It all started as a social media marketing plan for Anderson's piano store.
Paul Anderson, the videographer for the group, originally owned a piano store and was looking for a new way to promote his store. He decided to create music videos to showcase his pianos with local musicians. He first contacted a local pianist Schmidt, who also brought his childhood friend and cellist Nelson on board. Then Nelson invited his neighbor van der Beek to the team as a music producer. They started uploading videos on YouTube and Facebook, soon receiving thousands of views and followers.
2. They mix various genres, ranging from classical to pop, creating unique sounds.
While all their music is jaw-dropping, our current favorite is their cover of 'Let It Go' + Vivaldi's Winter!
3. They are an international sensation.
Since 2008, The Piano Guys have garnered over 6 million subscribers and 1.4 billion views on YouTube. The group also toured all over the world and played at a number of notable music venues, including Carnegie Hall and Royal Albert Hall.
4. Their most-viewed video is the piano/cello cover of Christina Perri's 'A Thousand Years'
...and it has garnered over 121 million views on YouTube!
